Town Exchange 2012 Liffré to Wendover

On Saturday 28th April, in the pouring rain, we welcomed a party of 30 adults and 3 children aged between 6 and 8 to a reception in Wendover Youth Centre, where after a speech by Cllr Duggan, the Chairman of Wendover Parish Council, our guests were introduced to their hosts and went home for lunch and a rest after their overnight crossing. We all met up again later for a lively evening in St Anne's Hall for fish and chips, guitar and accordion entertainment (with a little impromptu dance session) and a French/English picture quiz. It was a great evening with a really fun atmosphere!

On Sunday, again in the pouring rain, we went in two coaches to Denbies Wine Estate near Dorking, where our guests were very impressed by the whole set-up and thoroughly enjoyed the wine tasting and the tour around the vineyard on a land-train. They hadn't realised that there were so many vineyards in England and were surprised to find we can make good wine here.

Monday, which luckily was the only dry and fine day of their visit, was the free day for hosts to entertain their guests and among the chosen venues were  London, Oxford, the Cotswolds and Bletchley Park .

The group left on Tuesday morning , again in the the rain and stopped off in Winchester for a brief visit before getting the ferry. Luckily the sun came out and they were able to sit on the deck as they made their way home.

We had a number of new hosts this year and also a number of visitors here for the first time:  many new friendships were made and email addresses exchanged and now it's our turn to look forward to the 'return match' in Liffré in 2013.
