Our Forty Second Year

The Haddenham Mummers perform the traditional village mummers play as published in 1942 by Walter Rose in his book 'Good Neighbours'.

The play was revived in 1976 and every year since then it has been performed in pubs on the days leading up to Christmas. We have two regular tours every season. The first focuses on pubs in the villages around Haddenham while the second, on the Friday before Christmas Eve, takes the performance through all the village pubs & bars. It's a tough job but someone has to do it! You can see a YouTube video of the play here.

Last year we donated £2700 to good causes, taking our total we've given away since we revived the play to over £27,000, a figure we're immensely proud of.  As usual, this season's collection will be distributed between local good causes: Haddenham Community Library, the MPS Society, Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway and Helen & Douglas House.

This year we continue our tradition of having a short but very intense performing season, starting with the birthday celebrations of Haddenham Museum on 24th November, and then the first of two visits to Chinnor railway station, headquarters of the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway on 2nd December, followed on 8th by Haddenham Winterfest. Our 'Out Of Village' Tour is on Friday 14th then we return to Chinnor Railway station on Sunday 16th.  The following Thursday, 20th, we have a couple of lunch-time performances for Abbeyfield House on Church Way and the Thursday Club in the Village Hall. The season rounds off with our usual In Village Tour on Friday 21st.  See the Appearances section (top left) for more tour details.
