The Claydons & Swan Team Church Community Events
The Team have many events through the year that are hosted by one of the churches, or by other community groups, that we try to support. Please see below. Regular events are listed separately.
Saturday 8th September - CHURCHES RIDE AND STRIDE This is a great opportunity to visit local churches, many of which will be serving refreshments, while raising money for your nominated church. More information to follow.
Sunday 9th September - PIMMS & HYMNS SERVICE - St James Church, Barton Hartshorn 2pm. This proved very popular when held for the first time last year. A complementary glass of Pimms, or other drink, combined with singing some favourite hymns in a beautiful setting. We hope you will be able to attend.
Saturday 15th September - JUMBLE SALE Edgcott Village Hall 2.30pm Raffle & Refreshments. Admission Free. In aid of St Michael & All Angels Church, Edgcott
Saturday 22nd September - The first Grendon Underwood JUMBLE TRAIL 10am-2pm Join in by setting up a stall outside your home and sell your unwanted items eg bric-a-brac, furniture, books, bikes, toys, clothes, cakes, craft items, cookies, anything really A free Trail map showing all the stalls will be available on the day. Tea, coffee, cake and bacon rolls will be available to keep the bargain hunters and stallholders going. Sunday 23rd September - HARVEST FESTIVAL SERVICE, HARVEST LUNCH AND PRODUCE SHOW - Preston Bissett Church 11am. The lunch will take place at midday and all are welcome; no need to book. After lunch the winners of the Harvest Produce categories will be announced and the winning produce auctioned off.
Friday 28th September - St Leonard's Grendon Underwood Raise the Roof Talks -Carol Hardy a Guide at Waddesdon Manor will talk on ROTHCHILD-SHIRE FAMILY, FORTUNE AND PHILANTHROPY 7pm Grendon Underwood Church Adults £10 Children free including wine, soft drinks and nibbles. Sunday 7th October - TRUMPET & ORGAN RECITAL - St Michael's Church, Steeple Claydon 3-4pm. Tickets £10 from email@example.com Crispian Steele-Perkins with Hilary Davan Wetton. Crispian Steele-Perkins is one of the country's leading trumpet players. He is widely admired for his purity of tone nad he has presented acclaimed recitals and masterclasses throughout the world. He has played the theme tunes for many films and TV programmes, including Antiques Roadshow, Lord of the Rings and For your eyes only. Hilary Davan Wetton is a nationally renowned organist and conductor. He as Jo Brand's organ teacher for the BBC1 series, Play It Again, and presenter of Classig FM's Masterclass programme. He is currently Conductor of the Military Wives Choirs. Recent organists posts have included St George's, Southwark, and St Mary & St Johns', Oxford.
Sunday morning - (every third Sunday of the month) - REFRESH - Parish Room, St Michael's Church 11am - Modern Acoustic Worship with a relaxed focus on worship songs, prayer and reflection. Come at 10.30am for coffee and a continental breakfast.
Sunday afternoon - (every first Sunday of the month - during term time) - Claydons Youth Group 6.00-8.30pm - Botolph House, Botolph Claydon. Younger Group starting at 6.00pm and Older Group at 7.00pm. Contacts: Emily on 730655 and Lyn on 712200.
Sunday afternoon - (every second Sunday of the month) - Cafe Church in Calvert Green Village Hall from 4-5pm. Church ... but not as you may know it ... With music, children's activities based on bible stories and of course, tea, coffee and biscuits. Church of England based; all faiths or no faith welcome. Sundays 4.00-5.30pm (for children of primary school age) meets 8 times a year - not in December, January, February and August. The venue moves each month - Grendon Underwood Village Hall, Marsh Gibbon Village Hall, Twyford Village Hall and Charndon Community Centre. There will be games, a bible story, prayer, varied craft activities and refreshments to enjoy, If your child/children hope to attend please let Revd David Hiscock know on 01869 277297 - or just turn up. Next meeting Sunday 16th September from 4-5.30pm at Twyford Village Hall.
Sundays at 6pm (monthly) 6.00-7.30pm at Grendon Underwood Rectory (for those aged 11 years and above) Our time together is an opportunity to meet up with friends and make new ones in an informal setting. Monday afternoon - (every second Monday of the month) - Games & Puzzles 2.00-4.00pm in the Mark Bulman Parish Room, Steeple Claydon ... Scrabble, Dominoes, Chess, Draughts, Board Games, Cards, Jigsaws, Puzzles - These and others are available to play or if you have another favourite we will try to obtain it. Everyone is welcome to come and join us for a couple of hours, with a cup of tea and biscuit to enjoy as well. Transport is available for those unable to come otherwise. Monday evening - Swan Team Junior Youth Club is for children aged 7-11 years and new members are especially invited. The Club re-starts on Monday 17th September meeting at Marsh Gibbon Village Hall from 6.30-8pm. Tuesday evening - Singing for Fun (weekly except first Tuesday in month) Everyone is welcome to join us on a Tuesday from 6.30-7.30pm in the Mark Bulman Parish Room, Steeple Claydon. It is not necessary to have a good singing voice, nor to read music. Just come when you can - £1 per session. (stop for break in August)

Wednesday afternoon - ‘TEA & CHAT’ (weekly event) from 2.00-4.00pm Do you sometimes feel a bit lost or lonely or just in need of a friendly chat over a 'cuppa'? Why not come along to our 'Tea and Chat' in the Mark Bulman Parish Room, Steeple Claydon (next to St Michael's Church). Saturday morning - (every first Saturday of the month) - HELP US TIDY ST. MICHAEL’S CHURCHYARD We invite you to join us from 10am as we tidy up the churchyard. No skills or tools are required, just energy and enthusiasm! Light refreshments will be provided in the Parish Room. If it's raining there are plenty of jobs to do inside the church.
