The Claydons & Swan Team Church Community Events
The Team have many events through the year that are hosted by one of the churches, or by other community groups, that we try to support. Please see below. Regular events are listed separately.
Sunday 20th January - 10am - Blessing of the Plough United Service at Twyford URC organised by the Anglican and URC churches of Marsh Gibbon and Twyford. A traditional celebration of our rural life seeking God's blessing on our village communities and all who are involved in agriculture. All are welcome.
Friday 25th January Village Quiz - Marsh Gibbon Village Hall in aid of St Mary's Church. 7.30pm for 8pm start. Questions to suit all ages and interests. Teams are of four people. Entry £6 per team (or £1.50 a head). Raffle, bar and fish & chip supper. Saturday 26th January Burns Night Supper East and Botolph Claydon Village Hall 7.30pm Menu: Home made Soup, Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, Gravy ... Cranachan ... Shortbread ... Coffee... (Diets catered for on request) Evening includes Bar, Scottish Music and Dancing, Poetry Reading and much more. Tickets £20. Sunday 27th January St Leonard's Church, Grendon Underwood Reflections over Breakfast will 'Ring in the New Year' with an opportunity to visit the ringing platform and learn how our church bells operate. This will be a good chance to meet and possibly join our small team of bell ringers, as well as eat bacon or sausage rolls. Remember there is no charge, everyone welcome.
February - A Jumble Sale is planned for Febuary in Edgcott Village Hall. Full details will follow shortly. If you are having a turn-out to make room for gifts received over Christmas or have unwanted gifts suitable for Raffle prizes, then Jean Crawford (01296 770453) would love to hear from you. Sunday morning - (every third Sunday of the month) - REFRESH - Parish Room, St Michael's Church 11am - Modern Acoustic Worship with a relaxed focus on worship songs, prayer and reflection. Come at 10.30am for coffee and a continental breakfast.
Sunday early evening - (every first Sunday of the month - during term time) - Claydons Youth Group 6.00-8.30pm - Botolph House, Botolph Claydon. Younger Group starting at 6.00pm and Older Group at 7.00pm. Contacts: Emily on 730655 and Lyn on 712200.
Sunday afternoon - (every second Sunday of the month) - Cafe Church in Calvert Green Village Hall from 4-5pm. Church ... but not as you may know it ... With music, children's activities based on bible stories and of course, tea, coffee and biscuits. Church of England based; all faiths or no faith welcome. Sundays 4.00-5.30pm (for children of primary school age) We are taking a short break until March, preparing dates and the programme for this year's meetings at four different venues - Charndon, Grendon Underwood, Marsh Gibbon and Twyford. Dates and venues to follow shortly.
Sundays at 6pm (monthly) 6.00-7.30pm at Grendon Underwood Rectory (for those aged 11 years and above) Our time together is an opportunity to meet up with friends and make new ones in an informal setting. Monday afternoon - (every second Monday of the month) - Games & Puzzles 2.00-4.00pm in the Mark Bulman Parish Room, Steeple Claydon ... Scrabble, Dominoes, Chess, Draughts, Board Games, Cards, Jigsaws, Puzzles - These and others are available to play or if you have another favourite we will try to obtain it. Everyone is welcome to come and join us for a couple of hours, with a cup of tea and biscuit to enjoy as well. Transport is available for those unable to come otherwise. Monday evening - Swan Team Junior Youth Club - Our first meeting of 2019 is on Monday 14th January from 6.30-8pm at Marsh Gibbon Village Hall. We invite you to bring your child aged 7-11 years old to this first meeting and give the Club a try. The first evening is free and we just ask for a donation of £1 for future meetings to go towards the cost of the hall, activity resources and refreshments. Tuesday evening - Singing for Fun (weekly except first Tuesday in month) Everyone is welcome to join us on a Tuesday from 6.30-7.30pm in the Mark Bulman Parish Room, Steeple Claydon. It is not necessary to have a good singing voice, nor to read music. Just come when you can - £1 per session.

Wednesday morning - Church Mice (weekly event) Mums 'n Toddlers Get-Together 10.30-11.30am at St Michael's Church, Steeple Claydon. Action songs and a Bible story for under 5s, followed by tea, coffee and chat with toys to play with. Contact: Kate on 730655
Wednesday afternoon - ‘TEA & CHAT’ (weekly event) from 2-4pm Do you sometimes feel a bit lost or lonely or just in need of a friendly chat over a 'cuppa'? Why not come along to our 'Tea and Chat' in the Mark Bulman Parish Room, Steeple Claydon (next to St Michael's Church). Wednesday afternoon - from 12.30pm in St Leonard's Church, Grendon Underwood A two-course hot lunch and drink costs £7. The next lunch is Wednesday 9th January. Saturday morning - (every first Saturday of the month) - HELP US TIDY ST. MICHAEL’S CHURCHYARD We invite you to join us from 10.30am as we tidy up the churchyard. No skills or tools are required, just energy and enthusiasm! Light refreshments will be provided in the Parish Room. If it's raining there are plenty of jobs to do inside the church.
