[Digital Switchover]

This is a Community Message from Thames Valley Police on Monday, 13 February 2012.

The Crystal Palace television transmitter is due to switch to a digital signal on 4th and 18th April 2012.  Most television aerials will be able to receive the improved signal, and providing televisions are either already digital, or have a digital box connected, they will also be able to receive a signal after switchover, once they have been retuned.

Householders should therefore beware of doorstep callers informing them that their aerials or other equipment will not be suitable for digital.  If in doubt contact a local aerial specialist who is CAI approved (Confederation of Aerial Industries), or an electrical retailer.

Anyone who has not yet converted their set and is eligible for the Help Scheme because they are over 75, claiming or entitled to claim Disability Living Allowance , is blind or partially sighted, or is living in a care home for more than 6 months, should contact the Help scheme on www.helpscheme.co.uk 0800 40 85 900. Further information on the switchover can be found on www.digitaluk.co.uk, 08456 50 50 50.’

[Keep your vehicles safe - Chiltern]

This is a Community Message from Thames Valley Police on Friday, 06 January 2012Police in Chiltern are encouraging motorists to keep their property and vehicles secure after three cars have been broken into in the area. The cars which were parked in Moat Lane, Prestwood, Chalfont Road in Seer Green and Frith Hill in South Heath all had windows smashed and belongings stolen from inside on 4th January 2012.

Det Insp Ian Jarvis, leading the investigation, said: “We are working hard to find whoever is responsible and prevent any more from happening.

“Most thieves are opportunists and we want to make it as hard as possible for them to be able to offend.

“I don’t want to cause unnecessary alarm but it is important to be aware that if you leave a jacket on the back seat, a thief might think there is something of value underneath or if you leave a mark from a sat nav on the windscreen they might break in to your car to see if the equipment is in there.

“This might sound insignificant but to have your car broken into and know that someone has looked through your belonging can be distressing. It not only feels intrusive but can also be inconvenient and expensive to have windows replaced".

Anyone with any information about the crime in the area is urged to contact Thames Valley Police on 101. If you don’t want to speak to police and don’t want to leave your name contact the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
